Mike LeeA late summer walk through the Red Fir Nature Trail near Mills Peak, CA, led to this surreal capture of towering Abies magnifica AKA Red Fir or Silver Tip Fir. Using a full-spectrum modified camera with an 830nm filter, I rendered the scene in pure near-infrared light—turning the dense forest into a glowing, otherworldly landscape.
The contrast between the dark, textured trunks and the luminous foliage makes the Red Fir grove feel almost mystical. A perfect reminder of nature’s beauty, hidden in wavelengths beyond our sight.
