A late summer walk through the Red Fir Nature Trail near Mills Peak, CA, led to this surreal capture of towering Abies magnifica AKA Red Fir or Silver Tip Fir. Using a full-spectrum modified camera with an 830nm filter, I rendered the scene in pure near-infrared light—turning the dense forest into a glowing, otherworldly landscape.

The contrast between the dark, textured trunks and the luminous foliage makes the Red Fir grove feel almost mystical. A perfect reminder of nature’s beauty, hidden in wavelengths beyond our sight.
