Does ASA have any forum in which members can debate resolutions through, like, Footnotes or something? @pamelaoliver , do you know?
If not, I guess we just found our first good usage of #ASAConnect!
The idea that only those with a fiduciary duty to the org should make organizational decisions seems quite wrong.
If members want to constrain how high the membership fees should be, the ability to work with for-profit publishers, or anything else, because we value other things more than the org's balance sheet
(or want to weigh in on more mundate matters like the forced move to #ASAConnect)
those seem like legitimate roles for members.
Sorry to others for this disgruntled #sociology inside baseball, but:
I belong to 14 #ASA sections, which I’m aware is ridiculous — but for years I’ve read every section newsletter and felt that I gained a lot from it, so the memberships have remained.
I haven’t seen a single section newsletter since the switch to #ASAConnect, even though I make a genuine (albeit reluctant) effort to open my overwhelming weekly consolidated digest every time.
I have never felt less connected to ASA than now.
