I’m now wondering if this oil is indeed by the Belgian painter Jean Francois, born in 1903.
The style of this 1925 painting is similar and the signature (at least of the surname) is pretty close. The artist’s later paintings seem to be less impressionistic in style, which perhaps makes my painting an early work.
Found this big oil on canvas today at a Normandy flea-market. It was very cheap & is signed Jean (?) François on the bottom left. Whoever it’s by, I love its ominous tone!
Its vaguely Impressionist style & the age of the frame (& bars to stretch the canvas) suggests it’s pre-1950 but I just don’t know. I found a Belgian artist Jean François (1903-1977) but I’m not sure the styles are similar.
Anyone know the artist, or can give any other comments/help?

I've had a go with creating my own barcodes this morning, then scanning them with a barcode scanner to see if they work. I've suggested an #ArtID which is: ArtId/First3CharactersOfArtWorkTitle/First3CharactersOfMedium/Year/ArtistsInitials.
