Think about it. It's a metaphor that almost everyone already knows: you've consciously chosen, for one reason or another, to abstain from consuming something in a particular category, or products containing it. Other people may make their own decision, but are expected to respect and (to the best of their ability) accomodate yours.
Similarly, it shouldn't be weird to ask something like "is there AI in this?" before reading text — the same way someone might ask "is there meat in this?" before eating a particular food item — and there should be a very strong social norm of always marking material created using (or based on material using) generative AI.
This is probably too much to ask, but at least it's worth a try.
