#7MileLookoutFire crews focus on remaining hotspots and equipment removal
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 5, 2025
“…Operations: As suppression efforts begin to wind down on the 7 Mile Lookout Fire, crews remain focused on securing the fire perimeter and preparing for the eventual removal of equipment. Firefighters from Tanana Chiefs Type 2 Initial Attack, Gannett Glacier Type 2 Initial Attack, Pioneer Peak Hotshots, and North Star Crew continue working along 7 Mile Lookout Road. Their focus continues to be on piling and burning hazard trees and woody debris to widen containment lines and reduce the risk of future fire spread, particularly in areas with lingering heat in deep duff layers.Crews also conducted multiple test burns between two previously burned sections on the southern perimeter to remove remaining black spruce and unburned fuels. However, due to high humidity and recent scattered rain showers, fuels under the canopy remained too wet to carry fire effectively. These burns produced limited results. On Tuesday, firefighters will shift to the southeast corner of the fire to continue piling trees, stacking logs, eliminating remaining hot spots, and reinforcing firelines…”

Firefighters continue work on #7MileLookoutFire as evacuation levels reduce
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 4, 2025
“…Operations:
Fire activity remained low on Sunday, and evacuation levels around the 7 Mile Lookout Fire have been downgraded due to moderated fire behavior and the work done by fire crews.
Firefighters from Pioneer Peak Hotshots, Gannett Glacier Type 2 Initial Attack, and North Star Crew continued working along the southern edge of the fire. Crews cleared hazard trees, widened firelines, and burned piles of woody debris to help secure the perimeter.
A small test fire was conducted Sunday afternoon, but fuels under the tree canopy were too wet to burn completely. Crews plan to try again Monday if conditions allow. These test burns help clean up unburned areas inside the fire perimeter and reduce the chance of the fire escaping if hidden heat flares up…”

Firefighters to conduct test burn today on #7MileLookoutFire southern edge
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 3, 2025
“…Warm weather continues Sunday allowing crews to carry out a test fire in unburned green vegetation near the southern edge. This will help eliminate fuels and lower the chance of the fire reigniting and spreading outside the perimeter. Smoke may be visible in the area during the operation.
Recreationists and members of the public are reminded to stay out of the fire area. Trees are still falling, and hidden ash pits pose a serious risk. These pits form when moss, leaves, or squirrel caches burn deep underground. They are hard to see and can cause serious burns if stepped into…”

Crews prioritize safety and southern edge containment on #7MileLookoutFire
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 2, 2025
“…Firefighters continue working along the southern perimeter of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire, using hand tools and hose lines to grid for hot spots and removing fire-weakened trees and debris along 7 Mile Lookout Access Road. A drone flight on Friday detected no remaining heat along the southern edge.
While recent rainfall has helped moderate fire activity, it also created muddy, unstable terrain. Burned trees with weakened root systems remain hazardous and are falling with minimal wind…”

Crews focus on mop-up with drone support on the #7MileLookoutFire
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 1, 2025
“…Operations:
A test fire was conducted Thursday on unburned interior fuels along the eastern edge of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire. However, high humidity limited fire behavior and prevented a clean, complete burnout. Firefighters will continue to monitor conditions and test fuel moisture in preparation for a full burnout operation when conditions allow.
The Tanana Chiefs T2IA, Pioneer Peak IHC, Gannett Glacier T2IA, and North Star Fire Crews are cutting and piling fire-weakened trees to reduce hazards and prevent reignition from smoldering duff layers. Along the southern perimeter near 7 Mile Lookout Road, crews are gridding for hot spots, conducting mop-up, and using folding tanks and hose lines to saturate deep-burning fuels. Piled debris will be burned in place, and drones are assisting in detecting lingering heat to reinforce containment lines on the southern and western flanks.
Although cooler and wetter conditions are forecasted as fall approaches, fire season is not yet over. A drying trend may still return, and firefighters remain focused on completing suppression objectives while the operational window remains open…”

Test burn planned on #7MileLookoutFire as mop-up and hazard tree work continue.
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on JULY 31, 2025
“…Crews continue mop-up operations along the southern edge of the fire, where burnout operations took place on Monday. Firefighters are checking for and extinguishing hot spots to strengthen containment lines. On Wednesday, crews were temporarily pulled back to 7 Mile Lookout Road due to falling hazard trees, which are fire-weakened trees with compromised root systems. Today, firefighters will continue identifying and removing accessible hazard trees along the roadway.
Fire personnel are also assessing conditions along the eastern perimeter to determine whether a test burn can be safely conducted. If successful, the goal would be to complete a burnout that removes remaining unburned fuels between the fire’s eastern edge and 7 Mile Lookout Road, reducing the risk of fire spread toward the black spruce hillsides south of Tok…”
