IC Pin Straightener

I have one of those spring-loaded, squeezable IC pin straighteners like this:

Which seems to largely work ok, but I tend to find myself turning back to this 3D printed one that I picked up somewhere online:

But I find it is invariably in the wrong place when I want to use it, so I was looking around for a another one, but haven’t been able to find it. I did find a keyring version that looked pretty similar, but nothing quite the same.

I did however find this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5948739

Which reminded me of the metal ones you used to be able to get. This is back in the days we had these alongside things like UV EPROM erasers…

The metal ones seem pretty pricy to buy online, but buying some type 608 bearings is definitely doable, so I’m printing one out and will see how it goes! Using default slicing settings it takes around 2.5 hours for me.

Its a bit bigger than I was expecting and it isn’t obvious how it is meant to go together. I’m guessing the screw-looking parts allow some adjustment to get the spacing right.

Well, I’ll try using it for a bit and see how things go.

Iterative improvements...

Printing just the tall support at the moment to get the settings right for that.

Forgot to turn the cooling fan on for this one so whist it is an improvement it's still looking sort of like it needs sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on it and nomming with my cup of coffee.

The smell of 3d printing this wood PLA is rather nice. It's like running a router a bit too hard and fast through MDF. (A smell I enjoy, even though it's probably carcinogenic 😬.)

stuck at work, and I wanted to start the next print on my 3D Printer. Using ZeroTier, I remote into my Octoprint instance and knocked the old print off the bed and on to the floor.

Now I can get started on my next print! #3dprnting

This is awesome, i'm just speechless...
