@2001 Changing spin would violate the conservation of angular momentum, or it would require Kubrick to violate the "180-degree rule" of filmmaking. Kubrick does not make newbie mistakes, and actually we are about to see continuity of rotation direction go right out the window in Act II. Pay attention to the space station coming up! Kubrick is messing with the audience. I never noticed this, but do now, thanks to Ms. Kearns (who is @idyllopus.bsky.social on BlueSky).
