I found 28-year-old Jack Kerouac in the 1950 census. He was living with his mom on the second floor of 9421 134th Street in Queens. His occupation is listed as "author" in the "books" industry.

I found John Lee Hooker in the 1950 census. He was living at 2420 Van Dyke Street in Detroit with his wife Maude and daughter Diane. He was a boarder in the home of Levi Barnes. His occupation was "guitar player" in the "archester" industry!
