Another photo from the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. This lovely area dedicated to the company that poisoned damn near all of New Jersey, DuPont!

One more for tonight from the 1939 World's Fair, simply because it is related to the last photo. Here is the building celebrating the accomplishments of The League of Nations, as they were about to fail their main mission, preventing another World War. Great intentions, but preventing people from blindly following evil men will always be an immense challenge. I'm not sure if this is more relevant today than it was back then, but it sure feels that way.
Anyways, I will always love the name "League of Nations" way more than "United Nations". Both the name and that font definitely were carved into the foundations of comic books.

Another of my great-grandfather's photos from the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. Many countries had areas that highlighted their cultures and histories. This is a bit interesting because from what I can tell, he might have been visiting the World's Fair right as World War 2 was beginning. Granted, Italy didn't join World War 2 until June of 1940, but Mussolini was definitely in power. Fascinating seeing them have this immense display at a fair celebrating world peace.

A bonus 1939 World's Fair photo by my Great-Grandfather tonight, simply because I love this one and really encapsulates what I was talking about in my previous post. Elektro the Robot, who could walk by voice command, speak about 700 words (using a 78-rpm record player), smoke cigarettes, blow up balloons, and move his head and arms.

Another of my great-grandfather's photos that I cleaned up from the 1939 World's Fair in New York City. I'm glad that Flushing Meadow/ Corona Park is still there, but I so wish that more of this was kept. It's one of my greatest frustrations that this country not only stopped being dreamers and builders, but stopped caring about, and caring for, the incredible things we created. For every controversial negative thing, there are a dozen moments where we made something special. No, it will never justify any of the wrongs, nor should we ignore or forget them, but we should also find a way to celebrate some of the good.
