Sir Gilbert de Umfraville (or 'identified as', as Pevsner put it, hedging his bets). He lies with what remains of his legs crossed in the south choir aisle of Hexham Abbey. When he died in 1307 this was the church of an Augustinian Priory, and in fact it has never been an abbey. #MonumentsMonday

An unusual memorial of 1896 in Ripon Cathedral to Charles Oxley, his wife Emily and their seven children, each depicted with their real face and cherub wings. The inscription was added to over the years, most recently in 1990 when the youngest daughter Dorothy died aged 100. #MonumentsMonday
