I contributed to an Evil Hat project (Fate Accessibility Toolkit, should be out soon-ish) and am working on some self-published games also using Fate.

You can probably guess my favorite system, but I also (reluctantly) play D&D and occasionally dip my toe in others.

I like the character & world-building aspects of RPGs, hate combat systems and heavy rules, but love playing with friends.

Autistic enby ace.

Today I read the second issue of #DieComic by Kieron Gillen. It's a fantasy horror story about some players getting stuck in the realm of their new game.

The mechanics and worldbuilding bits we've gotten so far are interesting and I'd really love to see it developed as a full playable game.

Or maybe I'll just make a homebrew version. Hopefully I don't get too caught up in it. 😉

Honestly, like 90% of "should we treat robots like people?" sci-fi narratives are almost inexcusably lazy, because they're willfully ignoring the much more uncomfortable reality.

How can we be willing to acknowledge whether or not robots should be treated like people, without acknowledging the reality that people are already being treated like robots.

Not quite a tabletop game, but I got to try Two Rooms and a Boom with my family tonight. It was one of my sister's Christmas presents. Incredibly fun for me *and* probably the only time I can remember playing a game with this particular group that *everyone* enjoyed and where no one fought. Definitely recommend.

BLUEBEARD did WHAT?!

Picked this book up at Games of Berkeley yesterday since (via @maenad ) they're /practically/ friends-of-friends. As good as. If you squint. Okay, that's mostly an excuse to do what I want and pretend it's virtuous.)

Good day for @chaonaut_says I guess. He's been waiting for this for quite awhile.

But first he has to get everything sleeved and sorted. So we'll see if we actually have time to play today.

Other Sentinels fans?

It's definitely my favorite hero game, mechanics-wise. I would love to see it implemented with characters I already know and like. But it's still good.

@Gorgmorg So I think the question is less "hey do you think the developers meant for this mechanic to destroy the zombie it's on in this particular situation?" and more "Where do we draw the line on letting common sense and narrative overrun the rules?"

@Gorgmorg I think the argument was rules/mechanics as spelled out in game vs intentions vs narrative sense.

Like, the next location had a zombie with a Burning mutation. Doesn't damage the zombie, does damage humans. Another player did a bunch of damage with a fire-based attack. Zombie player asks "Wait, how are you doing fire damage to a zombie that's *already on fire* without being hurt?"

Common sense says no, but the game makes no exceptions like that.

@thorgrit Well, typically just when they run out of life points. Or with a headshot. So...I mean, I *guess* I can see his point. That didn't happen, he still had some life points left...

But, like. The zombie. Exploded.

And he was going to leave it in play to do the same thing next round.

No.

The problem is mostly that the rules are really vague and unclear. I think I like the game, but it almost needs the rulebook to be scrapped and rewritten completely.

Card text says "If this zombie takes 3 or more total damage in one Combat turn, it explodes. All survivors must roll a die. On rolls of 3 or less, they take 1 damage. Survivors who played the Fight Action roll twice."

Zombie player says the zombie is still in play because nothing specifically states otherwise. Even though it exploded.

...

Thoughts?

We're gonna compromise this time but trying to come up with a defined rule and rationale for next time.

@ossifog Basically high school superheroes. It's closest to X-Men: Evolution.

But it did pretty badly and I think the pitch made it sound more like an active superhero team like Young Justice so I'm gonna try to make that happen from here on. I screwed up by not doing enough prep, but I didn't realize how sick I was going to be. 🤒 Probably I just should have called it off, but I was so excited to finally get to do Fate.
