Shared from MeFi: "What the size of your book collection says about you"
Get out those measuring tapes…how big is it [https://www.metafilter.com/207987/What-the-size-of-your-book-collection-says-about-you]? Your book collection. I thought this was a fun/silly thing to chat about and wanted to share it here. I use the My Library app on Android [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vgm.mylibrary] to catalog my personal collection (less than 800 books but growing) Do you ever ‘weed’ your collection? What’s your ratio of print to ebooks? Do you collect in certain subject area(s)? From where do you acquire? (used bookstores, online, new bookstores, etc.) Thanks for sharing!

Q re: New Yorker. Article online vs print?
How can I tell which print edition of the New Yorker has the online article? Do all online articles appear in the print edition? I read the online Interview with Justin Torres, loved it, I want the print edition to frame. The online edition says it was published 12/31/2023, I just can’t find it in print.
literature - what does this quote mean?
What's the significance of calling it "Israel-Hamas War" vs "Israel-Gaza War"?
I’m in the US. I haven’t discerned a pattern, by the media, in the titling of the horror currently underway. I’ve seen Al Jazeera use both phrasings. I haven’t determined that other media sites are hardlining their terminology either, but I notice the difference as I browse. Maybe it doesn’t mean anything, but these days people seem extra sensitive about names.
Relationship between Alexandrite and Lemmy.world ?
Recently started using Alexandrite and am really enjoying the experience, but have questions. I’m thinking of Alexandrite as the chocolate shell over my lemmy.world ice cream cone. Alexandrite is not an instance, correct? I have not found a place on Alexandrite where my subscriptions (joined communities) are listed. Is this not yet available? I assume that if I join a community in one (either Alexandrite or Lemmy.world) it will sync with the other. True? I’ve joined communities in Alexandrite, but they don’t show in the list of subscribed communities in lemmy.world. That just may take more time. Yes? Thanks!
