This week I visited my old group at the University of Zurich, followed by a weekend trip to Lugano (in best company).

TIL that this is an official domain seizure notice, which somebody in the DOJ has to have approved.

Like, wtf? Did they intern at the Daily Mail?

Is this web-site a Z-Library site that was seized by the FBI?

Z-Library is a file-sharing site for books. It is illegal in many jurisdictions, and has had some domains seized by the FBI in 2022. zlibrary-bl.se [web archive version] is ostensibly one of those ...

And, as an even funnier counterpoint, European pro football ("soccer"), which is historically deeply rooted in the working class movement, has none of the above, and a gap wide as an ocean between "top" teams and everybody else.

To wit, some historical results from the German Bundesliga (Wikipedia):

Self-Nomination for ICSE 2026 PC

Please use this form to nominate yourself to the program committee of the 48th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2026) latest by November 12, 2024. While we cannot select all qualified candidates, we will do our best to add new people to the ICSE program committee. We will involve the area chairs in the selection of the PC members. Criteria: 1. PhD or similar research experience (or will have PhD by March 1, 2025) 2. Publication experience. At least two full research papers in the main research/technical tracks of ICSE, FSE, or ASE or top-tier SE journals, TSE, TOSEM, and EMSE. We will consider other full research papers in the main research/technical tracks at ISSTA, ICSME, MSR, etc. on a case-by-case basis 3. Review experience. Served as a PC member before in major software engineering conferences, e.g., ICSE, FSE, ASE, ISSTA, ICSME, etc. We will also consider people who have not yet served on the PCs of major software engineering conferences if they have equivalent review experience. 4. At least two people who served on the ICSE, FSE, or ASE PC can confirm the high quality of your reviewing work --- you do NOT need to check with the supporters in advance; we want a lightweight process and will only check if needed. After submitting the form, you will receive a confirmation email. Many thanks in advance for participating! Mira Mezini and Thomas Zimmermann ICSE 2026 Program Co-Chairs Note: This form is adapted from the self-nomination form of many previous SE conferences. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this form, most recently David and Corinna.

I'll bet good money that behind the hood this is just some GenAI model with pre-defined prompts.
I have long argued that for any academic job more senior than a PhD student the first step in the application process should just be "Send us a link to a Google Scholar or DBLP page".
