Once again, "it's useful for programming" is being used as cover, to justify the continued existence of this company and industry.

The money that we pay toward coding assistants extends the runway this industry has, to continue positioning itself as "indispensable" and "inevitable", while destroying labour rights, open knowledge, and the environment in the meantime. That money is actually critical for that runway, because coding assistants are one of the only high-margin products these companies have.

Programmers don't like to think about this, and like to pretend that this technology is neutral and that we can use it regardless of the underlying ideology. This is completely burying our heads in the sand.

I'm just not interested in participating in any of this.

@klardotsh @nash yeah def. rust for audio plugins is still a bit fledgling but it's the ecosystem rather than the language. unless you're making a fairly simple plugin you'll need to do at least a little work on the stack.

@gerotakke @janl one time i was at a meetup of some sort at a coworking space (on adalbertstr!) that jan was working at, and i remember asking him if attendees were allowed to grab a bottle of water from the fridge and he got up to fetch me one himself

@janl it was also a pivotal labs project and development velocity slowed way down across the vmware and later broadcom acquisitions. there's corporate sponsorship and it keeps chooching along for my purposes, but i'd be lying if i said i didn't occasionally check in to see where e.g. forjego actions or woodpecker or even buildbot are to see if i should migrate
