Vimy Ridge 2018.

A year later, I returned to the northern France/Belgium border to see some of the places where one of my great uncles saw action in 1916-17.

On the way, I visited another area nearby on behalf of a friend whose great uncle was killed in action in WW1 with no known grave.

I didn't know when I took this photo a year earlier that where he was killed (Festubert) is almost exactly due north from where the photo was taken, on the horizon midway between the statue and the cones.
