The polyamorous, polytheist, pansexual, hedonist historian with a lackadaisical concern for gender norms your parents probably shoulda warned you about (He?Him).

Y'know, it's interesting. I appreciate and enjoy platforms like this, but also find it hard to come up with anything interesting to go into for myself. It's a blend of not really wanting to talk about my day-to-day and not being sure I can clearly explain the nonsense I get up to during said day-to-day.

All of which is to say I hope folks had a good day and I should perhaps practice valuing myself and my interests' place on the wider web a bit more. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

@sylkensomers There's supposed to be an edit option attached to the image that lets you add the description, though I think it varies based on the exact platform and app you're using based on what I've seen others saying today and yesterday.
@leahdriel Listen, if voting in inane polls is wrong, I don't want to be right.

@dpthorngren

If you build it, they will come. :P

@Darksidestraxus I'm fairly new myself, but from what I've read, it's kinda like how forums were back in the early 00's. Basically, anyone can spin up an instance of server software compatible with Mastodon (and similar services) and link into the network. Users can opt to use that server as a home if invited—either specifically or through automated registration—and their primary feed will be the posts of people on that specific server. Right now, we're both part of mstdn.social, for example.

Where things get interesting is the federated part. Since everything's using the same protocol, posts can be shared across servers if they're in sync, allowing you to see posts from related communities as well as your own in the right clients. And if you find another community fits your style better, you can pull up stakes and move over there with a bit of effort.

Overall, it's pretty cool!

Guess I should probably write a #Introduction, so I can be like all the cool folks I see using it. Hi, I'm Wote and I'm a historian who's a giant blob of gender and sexual multiplicity on a good day and a giant blob of gender and sexual multiplicity with depression on a bad one. I also fiddle around with classic game randomizers, tabletop games, and the occasional writing project that I absolutely can never let my family learn about.

... But, if you just want to think of my as a box of tentacles and friendship, that's cool too. :D

@tomasekeli @ryan

Yeah, I noticed that while I was fiddling with profile settings―and kinda assumed that would be possible in some way when I was picking a starting point. If nothing else, it seems like a good place for people-watching for now. :P

@tomasekeli @ryan

As one of those new folks, that was pretty much my reasoning. Figured it was easier to start somewhere busy and eventually migrate once I saw where my attention was gravitating and/or where folks I know wound up.

@austin Beautiful. :')

@austin

She's an old meme, sir, but she checks out.
