I went to write today's date and instead automatically wrote 7 December 1941.

I rarely think about the Roman Empire, but ask me how often I think about World War II... 😬

Pleased to learn that Detroit finally has its 11-foot statue of Robocop. It's the second thing I ever backed on Kickstarter πŸ˜‚

I'm swimming 10k again in November for Cancer Research UK - any donations are much appreciated!

I took on this challenge last year to support Cancer Research UK and kick off my training for an English Channel relay swim (which I didn't wind up swimming, but that's another story!). This year I'm doing it purely to raise money for cancer research, in memory of beloved friends and family members who are no longer here. All donations are appreciated!

I finally wrote (in detail) about not swimming the English Channel - but going along for the ride anyway!

The call has been received: the Jitterbugs channel relay team is setting off tomorrow evening (Thursday) from Dover at 11:30 p.m. BST, and I will be on the boat as support crew!

If you're interested in this sort of thing, you can track our boat (Gallivant) on the CSPF website: http://cspf.co.uk/tracking

There's also a Facebook page which we hope to update regularly as we go: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61579113011310

Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation - Swim Tracking

The Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation (CS&PF) is the largest and most comprehensive governing body for English Channel swimming.

@adactio I didn't bring it up at the time, but I was also very, very aware of those two plot directions, and I very much did not love them.
@aegir Yeah. πŸ˜• I know they're strapped for cash, but it's pretty shocking for them to ask me to essentially help make myself obsolete after all these years. I guess this is just the way things are now.

This week, one of my oldest and best clients ("best" not in terms of the amount of work I get from them - which generally isn't very much - but in terms of how important I think they are and how much they mean to me) told me they're planning to translate their new website into English using machine translation, and would I kindly personally translate a glossary they could use as the basis for this?

I can't even muster much anger at this point, just sad disappointment. Very sad.

(Also, obviously, I said no.)

@shivers She really is a great coach - she's been doing this a long time and she's a hugely accomplished swimmer herself (Channel solo, two-way relays, I don't even know what else), so she knows what goes into it, and what it can take out of you. I'm so lucky!
@aegir Aw, thank you, Aegir - now you, too, get to experience the terror! πŸ˜‚ Yeah, I had to say something. It was one of those situations where I knew I couldn't "just push through" - it's gonna take a bit more work than that. Even MORE swimming! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚
