"changes to the water quality"
In its efforts to protect public health, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has reclassified the waters in portions of Northwest Creek, Northwest Harbor, Gardiner's Bay and Napeague Harbor. This morning, a third of a mile off of Beach Lane in Wainscott is 28 miles of cable onboard the Livingstone, the large green vessel (see photo). The cable will be pulled under the beach and connected to an underground vault in the road.
Once the cable is connected the ship will make its way east by southeast laying down the rest of the cable on the ocean floor. Then it will head to South Carolina to pick up another 28 miles of cable.
What a feat of engineering!
Wainscott Northwest Road, repaved.
Four feet under this road is a cable that will connect 12 wind turbines off of Montauk Point to the Cove Hallow substation in East Hampton.
