He’s a good robot dog, Brent - It took me a while, but I finally managed to unlock my little robot dog in Palia. Isn’t he cute?? He follows me everywhere, and he can take stuff home if my backpack is too full. https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/78922
Oh, did you think I just did one event today? I just went to the launch of the new “The Australian Dream?” exhibition at the State Library of NSW, where I got to meet one of the curators - Tim Ross himself. 🤯 (The exhibition is excellent AND FREE. You should go.) #architecture
And last but certainly not least - Michelle @mishmanners.tech Duke teaching everyone to deliver more effective pitches. We’ve all learned new ideas today; attendees will need to pitch to their leaders and teams to effect change. #YOWTLS25
Next is Sarah Taraporewalla talking about AI-first software delivery beyond just coding assistants. Higher coding throughout puts pressure on the system. Engineering practices still matter, if not more than they did before. #YOWTLS25
Next up is Leigh Gibson. I’ve heard her talk about trust and high-performing teams before, but I always learn something new. Audience is rapt. #YOWTLS25
Next is Artie Shevchenko sharing secrets of Google’s code review process. Interesting - the tool is deliberately called Critique to build context that this is a place for being vulnerable and freely discussing mistakes. #YOWTLS25
Next up is Simon Wardan, bravely following that AI rant with a talk on incorporating AI as a system component. Doing a good job of highlighting best practices for incorporating AI *where it makes sense*. #YOWTLS25
After lunch, we have Rasmus Lystrøm giving a barnburner of an AI rant. To paraphrase Nietzsche, if you stare at an LLM long enough, you become more like an AI - hallucinating and full of bullshit. 😂✊ #YOWTLS25
Last talk before lunch is the always entertaining Rick Giner, showing us how techniques for better prompt engineering can help with communication with humans too. It’s all about framing, consequences, and expectations. #YOWTLS25
Next is Sameera Gayan, showing us why leaders should aim to be the dumbest in the room. One approach is to ask targeted questions (“Can you help me understand your thinking here? I’m a visual person…”) to get team to visualise a solution and get clarity, which will help them move faster. #YOWTLS25
