Everyone stops lying to yourself, lemmy is filled with tech nerds despite the boost in popularity. We did not attract the mainstream. I just went to c/nextfuckinglevel, nothing fucking happens in a month. My brightest idea is to repost whatever interesting from Reddit over here, so we can gain traction.

The official web ui is ugly and unbearable. I am on liftoff which is decent.
We do need to attract young people, this is what social media do as well, very important.
I would like to see the host push ads, so that it's sustainable. It doesn't have anything negative to the community except it will sustain the instance do does the Fediverse.
I don't want to be telling the devs what to do with their software, but it is crucial for an everyday app like this to be open-source bc of privacy and security.
I want to know the software I run is secure.
