People are still (!) asking for fake vaccine certificates. On completely unrelated YouTube videos..
@UK_Daniel_Card @ciaranmartin They would paying a ransom to criminals, whose only incentive to not further sell is trust - but we don’t even know who the group is or if future trust might be worthwhile to them. They could sell the data further privately. They might have it stolen from them. An individual in the group may give to a friend. Apart from policy/ethical standards, paying to stop a public dump of data which is already not private hardly seems worth it.
@UK_Daniel_Card @ciaranmartin The problem is that private data is now not private, that bell cannot be unrung.
There is obviously massive value in having it not so publicly dumped (abortions.csv) - but as soon as private data is in any way not private, the value of a ransom drops dramatically - possibly to zero, as future impact is unknown. The value of the ransom would be there if it could be demanded prior to exfiltration - clearly a technical impossibility.
@fj this is what password managers excel at. They won't fill in a password on a different instance (or any phishing site) and you can't enter a password because you don't know it.
@Gargron see: UGT (abbr.): Universal Greeting Time.
UGT is convention initially established in #mipslinux on irc.openprojects.net (now irc.freenode.net) but slowly taking over the world. It states that it is always morning when person comes into a channel, and it is always late night when person leaves. Local time of any member of channel is irrelevant.
