I mostly post, over at https://twitter.com/vmlemon, and maintained a blog, at https://vmlemon.wordpress.com. Also on BlueSky (@vmlemon.bsky.social).

Assuming that this Mastodon server remains online, in the future, this account mostly exists, as a fallback, in case other services ever go away.

Broke as fuck, and on the verge of becoming homeless, unless I can find 拢1000, by tomorrow. Looks like friends, family, and loan sharks can't help me, at this point, short of some miracle happening...
@dulcedemon How long, until someone twists that into "DVDs cause cancer"? :(

Well, apparently #microsoft #Sharepoint now has the ability to scan inside of password-protected zip archives.

How do I know? Because I have a lot of Zips (encrypted with a password) that contain malware, and my typical method of sharing those is to upload those passworded Zips into a Sharepoint directory.

This morning, I discovered that a couple of password-protected Zips are flagged as "Malware detected" which limits what I can do with those files - they are basically dead space now.

While I totally understand doing this for anyone other than a malware analyst, this kind of nosy, get-inside-your-business way of handling this is going to become a big problem for people like me who need to send their colleagues malware samples. The available space to do this just keeps shrinking and it will impact the ability of malware researchers to do their jobs.

(I'm hoping that more ideas, and technologies will circulate, and converge, over time, so that everyone wins, when it comes to more reliable, and less toxic SNSes being available, for everyone)...
But, from what I've seen, with BlueSky, they've mostly kept their promises, despite some initial proclamations about "Nazi Bars", and uncertainty over moderation, and there's already SkyBridge, which apparently works, for ActivityPub interoperability, so the future of "Elon-Free" alternatives is looking promising...

Having more players, and options, does validate the concept, of a decentralised communications system, though - even if there's going to be a bunch of different standards, duking out out, for supremacy, like the BetaMax/VHS days...
I kinda wonder, if we'll end up with an XMPP redux, too - where one dominant player ends up disabling federation, like Google Talk, and FB Messenger, once they've built up a big enough user base...

Interesting times ahead, for Mastodon, Laconica, and Diaspora, I guess, now that BlueSky threw down the gauntlet, with https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app, just now.

Will FaceBook Open Platform make a resurgence, or will Twitter suddenly reverse course, and become more open?
