Let's look at this objectively, in 1950 the US was the undisputed industrial leader, less than 10 years earlier the US dollar became the world currency. We were also the only homeland to not incur any wartime destruction, putting US at an incredible financial advatage to any other nation on earth.
We had no competition. We could charge as much as we wanted because there was nowhere else to offer what the US had to offer. And the father time and natural competition ran it's course.
