Actress Alden Gay models Cartier jewels for Edward Steichen, May 1924
Twin catalog photos from 1928 which showcase some of the year’s trends, which included an athletic emphasis on sleeveless gowns and pleated skirts.
Ann Savage and her socks and sandals enjoy a Coke on the set of ONE DANGEROUS NIGHT (1943), a Saturday afternoon mood.
Gary Cooper and June Collyer in A Man from Wyoming (1930), an early talkie that remains questionably and sadly obscure
A few more. June was born Dorothea Heermance in 1906—I don’t blame her for using her mother’s maiden name—and was one of the WAMPAS lineup in 1928. It tickles me that she was married to Stu Erwin from 1931 until his death—I don’t know about you, but I think they made quite the cute couple.
June Collyer was one inconspicuous name whose films are often overlooked—she also took a good picture. Seen here in a beachy session I’ve always adored, taken by Don English circa 1930. (I told you I’m partial to summery photos…)

Harlow fell ill with an intestinal flu on this leg of the trip (likely exacerbated by nerves) that the caption references; gold star for their usage of “abed.”

Adrienne, meanwhile, is shown in one of her distinctly pre-Code Elmer Fryer glamour shots taken at Warner Brothers during the latter half of 1931. I’ve always adored this snazzy deco backdrop, which WB frequently utilized in productions around this time period, such as UNDER EIGHTEEN (1931).

Managed to find my two favorite girls on the same news page—nerdy thing to be stoked about, but, how exciting. Published in the Buffalo Courier Express on January 10, 1932. Amazing how the editors made this choice specifically for me sixty-six years before my birth!

Harlow is shown in bed with the telephone in her Pittsburgh hotel suite, taken December 1931 during her personal appearance tour—I love how posed this shot is. You know, just in bed with a full face on, that’s totally candid!
