Amsterdam Light Festival 2025: Solid void 3.8 x3.8m. We both have vivid memories of being a child and hearing for the first time about molecules and particles. A frightening concept at the time. Neutrinos, small neutral particles, are constantly flying around our ears. Neutrinos are the most common particles in the universe after photons. Right now, more than ten billion neutrinos pass through your fingertip every second. Neutrinos go through almost everything. Yet we notice very little of this. This is because gravity has virtually no effect on them.
Hundred aluminum tubes are randomly arranged inside the perimeters of a cube 3.8m2. Forty slats have an LED line in an aquamarine color. At random times a light shoots over the line and fades away. Solid Void is a limited visualization of this reality.
A smaller solid void was first shown at Arvika Ljus in 2023.
Many thanks to Sami and Davian. Programmed by yens and yens, welding by smederij van Rijn. LEDs by ipixelleds.
