Clearing out miscellaneous electrical bits and pieces the other day, I made some phone adapter art
Just shy of 1kg tomatoes this afternoon, with the big one being just under 500g. Total harvest to date: 1.57kg

Super simple pasta for lunch today

Cook smoky lardons in air fryer with a dash of olive oil (not in the basket as we want the juices for flavour). Add precooked pasta from fridge. Warm through. Snip in as much rocket as you like. Throw on grated grana padano cheese (or whatever you have).

Not very healthy perhaps, though precooked, cooled and reheated pasta is allegedly better for you than freshly cooked. Quantities are random according to your taste, so no need to measure anything!

Fixed it... Stress levels returning to a more manageable level. #Autism #OrdnungMussSein
I wonder if anyone else finds this annoying... I mean REALLY ANNOYING. So annoying that you can't get any peace until it has been fixed. Such inconsistency in the file naming! I also want to find the person responsible and let them know... 😉 #Autism #OrdnungMussSein

Am listening to the most "ear-boggling" feat of musicianship. Alkan's "Concerto for Solo Piano" has been described as "the most cruelly taxing piano work before the time of Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji and Ferruccio Busoni." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concerto_for_Solo_Piano_(Alkan)

Marc-André Hamelin's performance has to be heard to be believed. The piece makes numerous impossible demands, such as "trills executed by the fourth and fifth fingers with the melody played on the same hand" No problem whatsoever. MADNESS!

One of my favourite stories is from the history of the Nobel Prize concerning two medals which were dissolved in aqua regia for the duration of WW2 to hide them and protect the recipients from the Nazis.

George de Hevesy: “While the invading forces marched in the streets of Copenhagen, I was busy dissolving Laue’s and also James Franck’s medals. After the war, the gold was recovered and the Nobel Foundation generously presented Laue and Frank with new Nobel medals.”

Well, this is rather delicious. I wasn't that familiar with the Latvian composer Ēriks Eơenvalds until I sampled this recording on Hyperion.

Unfortunately I don't think Hyperion releases are generally available on the streaming sites, but you can sample it on hyperion, amazon, or presto music:

EĆĄenvalds: Northern Lights & other choral works

The intensely practical choral music of the young Latvian composer Ēriks Eơenvalds is steadily gaining appreciation across the world. The works on this new album owe their genesis to commissions from the United States, England and northern Europe and encompass ethereal expressions of uniquely arctic phenomena (listen for wine glasses turned—and tuned—to wondrously simple but devastating effect within the choral texture), American ballads and several works in the ‘Anglican tradition’, the fruits of the composer’s recent residency at Trinity College Cambridge.

Trinity College Choir Cambridge here returns the compliment, as it were, with superlative performances of these varied and engaging works, all recorded under the watchful eye of the composer and conductor Stephen Layton.

I randomly discovered the formidable music of Barbara Thompson in 2022, the year she died of Parksinson's aged 77. If you like jazz and don't already know this, it's something that you have to hear. Wild and wonderfully weird! A complete delight!

I need to discover more so please give me Barbara Thompson recommendations.

At home on New Year's Eve with Régine and Maurice. This version of Ravel's Schéhérezade is one of my favourite recordings of all time
