We’ve improved the usability over the past few days

- Stops on a route are no longer immediately deleted when the routing is closed
- The map will now remember its last center in your browser for the next visit
- When searching/selecting a stop, there's now a history of recent locations as long as you stay in the same browser tab (for privacy reasons)

Improving usability remains a priority. If something’s bothering you, feel free to let us know!

📈 StreetCritic now shows a colored elevation chart — including both positive and negative elevation gain — for each route. Great for getting a quick sense of the effort involved! 🚶‍♂️⛰️

To support this, we upgraded our server. Bonus: faster route calculations and improved loading times ⚡

StreetCritic got a new terrain layer ⛰️

The layer includes shaded reliefs and contour lines (the latter visible only at higher zoom levels).

Want to try it out? Activate it in the layer selection box which is reachable via the layer button in the top right 🖱️ https://streetcritic.org/

When planning routes on a desktop, you can now use the context menu (right-click) to set your start, stop, and waypoints 🐭.

As always, you can move all markers using your mouse or touchscreen.

The routing- and GPS-features also got some smaller bugfixes.

StreetCritic's bicycle map got some updates

Official bike routes are now displayed on the map

Also, we reworked railway stations and tracks. They are now more visible, allowing cyclists to find starts/exits near routes.

Maps for cyclists should show and highlight bicycle routes, not highways or other car focused streets

That's what we are currently working on. Coming up later this week :)

🚀 New feature: Share Your Routes! 🌍✨

Sharing your routes is now possible via URL—just send the link, and others can see your way. Plus, your way preferences for safety/comfort/beauty are stored in the URL.

Try it out, here's the route in the screenshot: https://streetcritic.org/?c=11.5251934-48.157634&z=12.44&s=11.5488843-48.1415795_11.5464786-48.1731314&p=100-0-0
