So I've been using this platform for about a month now, and I do like it, and` boy howdy it's better than any other social media, but that's not really saying much; that's more a condemnation of social media platforms generally than praise of fedi. Ultimately a lot of fedi's problems seem like problems baked into techbro utopianism, and well, techbro utopians are by and large proud white liberals who aren't keen on examining their own biases or even admitting they exist. There is no code patch or hack or "one weird trick" for white supremacy, there's no python module to correct cognitive errors made in service of white hegemony. There's no similar tool for patriarchy or antisemitism or transphobia or whatever else either.

This isn't a condemnation of fedi or masto or technology per se or whatever, it's just pointing out that there is no easy road and white people need to stop acting like fedi is perfect just because it's better than twitter. "It's better than twitter" is true, but if the floor for your expectations is "it's better than the website welcoming literal Nazis" then I gotta confess that your standards are far too low for anyone to trust you.
