Yes.

#openbsd
like you don't have to give me the whole introduction every time you update anything, but please at least include a single line of "DigiScrambo is a python library for updating firmware on train GPS units"

I hate how often I see this kind of update out of context:

DigiScambo 1.8.3.5 release!
Finally, after two years of work, we've finally updated DigiScrambo to use Sneeborf 2.0!
You can download DigiScrambo 1.8.3.5 at http://digiscrambo.egg/releases

And it's absolutely doing my fucking head IN, that we have all these people saying, "Oh welp it's the law" like all of this shit is a totally normal obvious foregone conclusion, immutable law of the land no takes backsies look they all voted for it blah blah blah blah

MEANWHILE BOMBING HOSPITALS IS TOTALLY COOL AND INTERNATIONAL LAW MEANS NOTHING WHATSOEVER SO MUCH WET TISSUE PAPER

People sure pick and choose which laws to act like they care about. Jumping to comply this far in advance of shit designed to destroy ALL PRIVACY and digital freedom is entirely fucked.

So, Sonja Lumme did sing "Eläköön elämä" 41 years later in the 2026 UMK (as an interval act)... but that somehow ended up with me thinking of the seeming "untranslatability" of the song when i was like "i'm sure it actually had an english version" and ... it did, and here it is, "There's Life On Earth" (... that name somehow feels very muchly less "awesome" than the finnish name but oh well)

The goal isn't to protect children,
the goal is to de-anonymize every comment and action on the internet, associating it with a legal ID, by eventually requesting official identification from every adult using a computer.

Some politicians have already stated this plainly.

This leads to censorship of anyone criticizing their government.

This leads to repression of marginalized people, especially immigrants, people of color, and trans and gender diverse people.

This leads to self-censorship of any comments or actions that could be interpreted against the system. Such as speaking out against fascism and authoritarian surveillance, or defending human rights publicly.

This leads to total control of the population and its tools of communications.

This leads to the end of democracy, centralizing power even more in the hands of a few.

Do not let them do this to us.

The Engineer Who Tried to Put Age Verification Into Linux

The lasting damage was knowing it could happen at all: that a single contributor with no stated organizational backing could submit compliance infrastructure for surveillance law directly into the software that boots your computer, get it merged by two Microsoft employees, and have the creator of systemd personally block the removal.

The Engineer Who Tried to Put Age Verification Into Linux

Dylan, useful idiot with commit access, pushed age verification PRs to systemd, Ubuntu & Arch, got 2 Microslop employees to merge it, called it 'hilariously pointless' in the PR itself, then watched Lennart personally block the revert. Unpaid compliance simp.

Like, even leftie politicians are like "I'm all for improving efficiency" like... No! Ideology and stuff put aside, as a species we're meant to have slack, a lot of it! We're not supposed to be efficient, we're supposed to be sloppy slackers, so basically hippies!
