I already mentioned earlier that I've moved most of my Fediverse posting back to mastodon.social, but given the recent instance announcement here that this instance is closing down, just thought I'd reiterate that I am now at @unspeakablehorror

Though I've always posted more on Dreamwidth and Pillowfort anyway (links in my bio).

That's all.

Perhaps I should clarify that 'here' is mastodon.social. My icons tend to look a bit similar...
Okay, well, I guess I'm gonna post again from here for a while.
Wow, something terrible happened here. I don't really have time to play detective and figure out what it was, but just checking the timeline I am not getting a good vibe...

For people who prefer to use apps for social media rather than websites, what particular qualities of apps in general draw you to using them over web interfaces?

For me I prefer to use the web interface for social media, even when it seems to be actively discouraged by the devs, because I don't like extra apps cluttering up my diskspace, I prefer to have all the typical browser functionality when I use a website, and I feel like apps can introduce additional security risks.

Caffeine seems to have an unusually strong effect on me and stays in my system a ridiculously long time. This is good because on the few occassions I do consume caffeine, I tend to feel really alert and like my brain is connecting so many connections and I can do the thing. In fact, I can do *all* the things (spoiler alert: I cannot really do all the things but I will feel like I can)! It is also bad though because it can leave me feeling extremely off and jittery or anxious for hours on end.

Me: I just kind of want to chill out and be low-key today.

My brain: Then you shouldn't have had one (1) cup of tea earlier.

Asking because I hope to get more of my Tumblr friends on other social networks but being able to answer this question would also benefit the Fediverse because Tumblr is, I strongly suspect, dying. It will probably be a long drawn out death, but one way or another, I think it's on its way out. So, if the Fediverse wants to grow, having a good Tumblr replacement would be a huge opportunity for it to do that. We already have better Twitter here. Could we have better Tumblr, too?
Also, I'm already aware of both #Plume and #Friendica, so I'm looking for something else. And while I like the unlimited character limit for both of those platforms, it's clear that they were both designed to replace a different type of social media network than Tumblr (Medium and Facebook respectively). And knowing what I do about those two platforms, I don't really feel I can point to them and say to someone looking to replace Tumblr with a Fediverse thing 'here's a contender for that'.

Just wondering if anyone is working on a Tumblr replacement for the #Fediverse. I'm not talking about something that just imitates the look and feel of the website, but some of the core functionality.

Specifically, it has to at least *not* have character limits for posts, but I think another aspect of that a lot of people are really attached to (even if I'm decidedly not) is the way reblogs work on that particular site.

Anyone know of anything like this, even if it's a work in progress?
