you can make posts (toots), and you can reply to posts (your own or others) and you can essentially retweet things (retoot)

but you can't add a comment to the retoot (like a qrt) and you can't reblog w a comment under it like on tumblr where your comment becomes a new post (sidetoot), with a conversatiom building up through successive reblahgs

and the replies are only on individual posts, like on *facebook*

so, idk, where does the discussion happen? or does it just, not?

my main concern w mastodon so far isnt the, quirky interface

it's that i dont really trust the longevity of a social network hosted in someone's garage

ive been on a social media site that disappeared overnight, and that wasnt anyone's fault, but going forward we're all going to be just one extreme weather or medical event away from an entire instance just vanishing into the ether w no archive or record of all those connections

and access to any other instance is ALREADY up to admin diplomacy
