Due to the large performance benefits, we early upgraded all of Uber's mobile engineers to the M1 Max (64gb) a few years ago which gave 2x the build perf vs previous gen intel.

Some of those folks are coming up for refreshers, so we did a new analysis vs the M3 Max (64gb) and we're seeing about 35% reduction in build times vs the previous cohort.

Screenshots from our benchmark harness which tests clean builds and several different build graph invalidations to mimic common dev flows.

Undertook a weekend project to cool down my home server.

Been using the Jonsbro N1 as a small ITX NAS and homelab, and it's been running warm!

Removed the front panel, installed a 3000rpm Noctua 14cm, and zip tied a second 14cm as CPU Exhaust.

What a difference! 15c-20c on the CPU and disks.

Find me on Bluesky at tysmith.me. Really liking the custom domain regardless of where the hosting server is. Will still be on Mastodon and the birdsite until eventual convergence.
Oh lawd he comin'
What's stopping you from coding like this?

I wonder who's leaving faster, Twitter employees or Twitter users?

Actually solving a real problem I was poking at today...
We'll be out of jobs soon.
