I focus on connecting people, ideas and resources to solve complex problems, such as helping kids born in high poverty areas move through school and into jobs and careers.

I created the Tutor/Mentor Connection in 1993, and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC in 2011, with a goal of helping high-quality tutor/mentor programs reach more youth in all poverty areas of Chicago to help similar programs grow throughout Chicago and in other cities.

I've been digitizing my paper files from 30+ years of leading the Tutor/Mentor Connection and keep finding nuggets from the past. Today was a blog-exchange correspondence with Steve Habib Rose, who I met in 2007 via the Omidyar.net event.  I shared it at https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2024/06/drawing-from-my-archives.html

I used my database of #Chicago #tutor #mentor programs to host networking conferences every six months from May 1994 to May 2015.  I still try to connect programs to each other.  Learn about these. https://tutormentorexchange.net/conferences-and-online-forums

I started leading a volunteer-based tutor/mentor program in Chicago in 1975. Ever since then I've tried to transform adults who are involved in these programs, while making more available where needed. Here's an example. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2017/08/transforming-adults-involved-in.html

When I created the Tutor/Mentor Connection in Chicago in 1993 the goal was to increase news stories about local volunteer-based programs, including the one I had just started, to help attract donors and volunteers to each of them. I'm still focused on this. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2021/03/want-to-make-difference-rethink.html

In my article about "What I fear" I included a post from Twitter where ex Major League Baseball star Reggie Jackson talked about the racism he experienced in the 1960s and 70s while playing baseball in Birmingham, Alabama and other places.  Find the link and view the interview. It's not old history. It's now. https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2024/06/still-judged-by-color-of-their-skin.html

I love seeing posts from alumni of #tutor #mentor programs I led from 1974 to 2011. But I also cringe & fear for there safety and future. I watched Reggie Jackson talk about racism this week. My alumni live in that world. I posted this at https://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2024/06/still-judged-by-color-of-their-skin.html
