@Homebrewandhacking @tslil @lindsayellis i've noticed that sometimes racist stuff in media is less obvious to people who live in places where the targeted race is the majority

i'm imagining what would happen if, say, an East Asian author writing a fantasy series for an East Asian audience had an "evil race" (sorry) that had the same physical description Tolkien gave his orcs... like, a couple people might point out that the intended ugliness might reflect Westernized ideals about beauty, but i'd expect half the commentators on that to be, let's just say, basing their take on the English translation
