So I've been doing some research and building an opinion that #waterproof and #breathable are fundamentally incompatible goals in modern raincoats. Small holes in the fabric to provide breathability either leak or are clogged up, waterproof coatings to protect the small holes wear off

@amcvittie Ahhhh... rain gear. Here is where I have settled - I won't use anything "breathable" because it will always wet through. Granted, the more money you spend the longer it takes, but when you understand how Goretex is made you see that leaking is inevitable. So - I use a fully waterproof and not breathable jacket with underarm zippers. The jacket is fully waterproof and the zippers provide venting which is more effective than "breathable". Look for Silpoly material.

@freeder23 so I just returned from an overnight camp and had neglected to "rehydrate" my Sawyer before going. Curious to know what you find out - I was eventually able to get it flowing and filtering but it took a lot of time and patience 😬. Thankfully was still able to have a great time!

Sometimes I hike in them when not concerned about kicking rocks.
If I don't want to carry the weight then my trail runners get dunked and I just deal with it
