Tony Panero / retired from doing software, for companies that no longer exist, to bike across the US. Good choice.

This account is used as a Twitter replacement and I follow various people I don’t know for their opinions and/or information.

For interactions with family and friends, I use the account @rapanero

@dougmerritt A colleague of mine ~1980 quit to become a contractor; the first job interview required facility in COBOL, which she read up on the night before. Just as the interviewer started asking knowledge questions, an employee came in asking for help with a program crash. Listening for a few seconds, she asked “did you check for end of file?” Got the job.

Her previous experience was with IBM where error messages always included a number. The decimal number she chose was, in hex, “B00BOOBAD”

@JonChevreau @stevebenen I think the Supreme Court already did that. Would Hatch apply to Musk as well?

I had an interesting interaction with TurboTax/Intuit today. I tried to run my 2019 tax program to check a detail on my taxes. I was asked for the license key, which was rejected.

I logged on the TurboTax and went to the download page, located my version and saw that the license number has not changed. I re-downloaded and got the same failure.

I turns out, after an hour on the phone, that when Intuit stops supporting a given version, they invalidate the license so whether or not the software works, you can’t use it.

@TheConversationUS Thanks - my general opinion of TheConversation is that the articles are well thought out; I’ll assume I got this wrong.

@soccermoviemom @cheesy_mojeezy Long ago, I went to an ice hockey game in San Jose. All I remember of the game was the noise. I haven’t been back.

@FediThing fails with Ivory, Mastodon, trunk even with reload.
@sallyexactly @nwsl @NWSLrainbow Thanks - for one like me who watches sports with the noise off, the language doesn’t matter.
@BrianJopek Next will be “tactical”
@heatherknight I’ll miss your articles in the Chron and am looking forward to your efforts in the Times.
