@jamigibbs I'm always blown away watching specialists do their work. We just had an 8'x12' shed built, and the installation crew was one guy. I kept expecting to see a helper show up, but he did it all solo in under 8 hours. I built a shed at my last house and it took me a week. Huge respect for the craft.

We are having our three entry doors replaced and we hired a guy that only installs doors. He's a professional door installer. He doesn't do windows. He doesn't do cabinets. He doesn't do flooring. Just doors.

He schedules just one door per day and shows up at 8am sharp every day. It takes him at least 6 hours per door. And they are perfect! Doors are his art.

It's so inspiring being around people that have passion for their work!

I am at a wildfire mitigation event sponsored by our electric utility and I won a firestarter 🤔

So home.social is shutting down soon and I don't have the time or motivation to migrate to another server.

It's been fun here, and maybe I'll see some of you around in the future, but in the meantime, you can always find me at zombo.com

I'm gonna tell y'all something.

Please tip your delivery drivers.

Not only is it hot in some places today, but others may have things going on that you don't know about and they push through it to make ends meet.

Spoken from experience...

@kyle Very nice! How do you like the Monocoat? I've heard a little about it but haven't tried it out yet. Does it seem pretty durable?
@bento Can't help with YouTube, but if you have a decent local library, look under the call number 684.08 for books on woodturning. That's how I taught myself this winter. Richard Raffan's books were a great resource.

Since I just moved to a new server, it's time to post a new introduction.

I'm Sasha. I live in Massachusetts in the U.S. with my husband and two cats.

I love animals, especially tapirs. I have wildlife cameras set up in my yard, and I post footage from those. No tapirs have wandered through my yard, but I do get a lot of cute raccoons.

I do a lot of knitting and needle felting, and more recently I've been learning woodworking (specifically marquetry) from my dad.

I write Postcards To Voters to get out the vote.

Below are pictures of (1) me with a baby goat, (2) my cat, Detour, (3) my cat, Gabe, and (4) some tapirs that I knitted.

The storm raged.
It thundered in from the sea,
threw hail and rain,
flattened, tore at everything in its path.
It saw people flee, take shelter, cower.

And one,
one person,
came out of their house with a steaming mug of tea,
left it on the porch,
waved,
and went back inside.
