we've had to take a bit of a break from developing sHit since we damaged our laptop keyboard, but during that short break i think we've come up with a much more efficient way of constructing the build files than "go line by line through the source files, adding code to a single massive array, then dumping that whole array into a new file"

still tossing up between the sidephone (https://sidephone.com) and the bluefox nx1 (https://aiphor.com/products/bluefox-nx1-4-0-android-smartphone) phone for my next device

the sidephone definitely seems like the better designed product but the bluefox is a lot more affordable and has a few extra bells and whistles that i would really appreciate, like expandable storage and a full touchscreen and an ir blaster

neither of them seem to have nfc which is annoying

i've been researching the correlation between console name numbers and console sales numbers.

consoles with 1 in the name have a middling sales record (PS1, xbox one)
consoles with 2 in the name sell really well (PS2, switch 2)
consoles that are a correctly numbered "sequel" to another console sell great (PS2 & switch 2 again, PS3, PS4, PS5)
"sequel" consoles that don't use a number sell terribly (wii U, xbox series X|S, PS vita) unless they are boys (game boy et al)
- however, you can only release three boys (game boy, colour & advance). further boys will not sell (virtual boy). numbered boys are as of yet untested
"sequel" consoles using the wrong number sell quite well, with higher numbers moving more units (nintendo 64, xbox 360)
"sequel" consoles can skip a number and still sell well if they put the number at the front, but will never reach the sales numbers of their predecessor (3DS)
consoles that aren't a "sequel" yet still use numbers sell abysmally, especially if the number's at the front (turbografx 16, 3DO)
- this actually worked once (atari 2600), but caused the north american video game crash and doomed the company, no matter how high they tried to make the numbers (atari 5200, atari 7800)

I find it really funny that iFixit still gives Apple shit for soldering their RAM and SSDs, saying that the "marginal difference in read and write speeds may not be worth it for the downsides". However when Framework does the exact same thing, they get a free pass.

I'm not defending Apple here, just saying it's a double standard especially given that Apple did not build their entire brand identity on letting people upgrade and fix their shit.

more progress on the linux version of console edition (4jcraft iggy dev branch), there is now a mostly working ui, it doesn't have mouse support yet but it works
