This is obscene. Roads are shared spaces to help people move around, not car battlegrounds. “This souped-up SUV boasts bulletproof glass, blinding strobe lights, electrified doorhandles, and wing mirrors that can shoot pepper spray ” https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2023/jan/25/pepper-spray-school-run-apocalyptic-suv-reznavi-vengeange?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other.
Pepper spray for the school run? The weaponised SUV set to terrify America’s streets

The extreme features of the Rezvani Vengeance – including electrified door handles and blinding strobe lights – are wholly in tune with lethal trends in the US market

Cars cannot be the default for long domestic trips - they don’t scale, they’re inefficient, and there isn’t the space. So we should be proud and proactive about investing in the best option: awesome railways for everyone. We can’t afford to destroy them like this: “UK rail system described as ‘broken’ as 2022 data reveals extent of disruption” https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/dec/26/great-britain-rail-system-dubbed-broken-as-years-data-reveals-extent-of-disruption?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Happy 2023! If I may, a suggestion for your New Year’s resolution: *experiment* with a few new things that might make your life a bit more planet-friendly. Some things will suit, some won’t, but you don’t know until you try. If you live or work in London, I highly recommend trying the new Santander e-bikes. I think they’re a real game-changer for getting around the city - convenient & quick, and I promise sweating is minimal. #NewYear #climate #ebikes #PlanetFriendlyHabits #Cities
Every day there is a huge injection of energy from the Moon to the ocean via tides. I've been skeptical about extracting significant tidal power near coastlines because of the difficulty & ecosystem effects, but maybe tidal stream turbines offer a more realistic solution in the long term, if they can be deployed safely and (relatively) non-intrusively: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/nov/23/tidal-stream-energy-costs-ebb-reliability-flows #Ocean #Tides #Energy #Sustainability
How tide has turned on UK tidal stream energy as costs ebb and reliability flows

Investors are seeing rising potential in tidal power as turbines become more powerful and easier to deploy

That's more than the combined delegations from the 10 most climate-impacted countries.”
