That depends on the municipality and who decides to show up to meetings and make a big deal about it. If enough people get freaked out by these cameras it’s gonna cause real problems for elected officials who enable them.

Even if you’re technically correct, that doesn’t mean they never will, or that downstream consumers of their data never will. They’re easy enough to hack and I’m sure it would be trivial for the NSA to siphon off the raw feed in real time if they wanted to and send it to a datacenter in Utah.

The slide into hell is steep and slippery. I’m afraid we’re in a dark period of history that’s only going to get darker.

I want proponents of this tech to explain something to me. Why has the rate of stochastic terrorism only increased since the NSA and Palantir started spying on all of us? Isn’t the whole point of this to preempt those kinds of things?
