@jenmercieca The press can't quit him. They love him for auto-writing years of columns just by his existing and behaving as he does. I'm sorry, but too much of the media is just entertainment for clicks and eyeballs.
There is a certain pleasure in putting on some minimalist music and watching the Federated feed zoom by. Foreign languages I don't understand, politics, something about cooking, a koala bear pic, some comic in Dutch I think, more words, a dog. It's like an art installation.
@mollyjongfast I think I have to make my own server for fun and call it something that'll amuse me.
@kathygriffin Whether he's Uncle Joe or Dark Brandon, people just like the guy. You can't buy charisma like that nor replace it with dry wonkiness.
@tomtomorrow I will say that the part of the "culture" (and I hate that word) that bothers me here is that I feel like I'm being scolded all the time. If I want that I'll pay for an hour of it with someone who is exciting to look at.
Not for nothing but Elon Musk looks like a SCTV era Martin Short character.
@ernie Thank for the primer and the mention of Usenet (although I liked it's wild west feel better).
@juddlegum Musk has destroyed Twitter out of spite and on behalf of every fool who was angry they weren't as important as fill-in-the-blank person.
I'm not sure if this place is going to be the replacement for the disaster that Twitter has become, but I'll be happy to try it for a while to see if it works for me. I will say that as someone who loved the old Usenet because it was pretty much whatever users wanted it to be, I'm not a big fan of being scolded about language or rules and such. Suggest them & I'll take them under advisement.
@jenmercieca No one remembers the 1000 things the psychic got wrong, just the one thing they got right.
