In much of the US, this is the last week to register to vote in the US election in November. Do not miss your opportunity (and if you are registered, to check your registration to make sure it is still valid). Get registered and encourage everyone you know to register. Here’s where to start: Vote.gov

I’m kind of obsessed with circular buffer register files and i wonder if they are actually a good idea
Oh snap I can read "More than Meets the Eye" now
Note: Describing this year's weird DNC delegate roll call as "American Eurovision", despite I don't think this poster having actually watched it to realize the full implications of what they were saying, is uncannily close to accurate https://mastodon.social/@spinni81/112998179259046177
the two articles i have pushed to remove from wikipedia are:
an article about a Kim Deal sponsored recording branding initiative that didn’t ever go anyway (it just redirected to her wp article)
and a term for address mirroring used only in the TI-89/92 community (iirc it also redirects to mirroring now)
On the UK riots, Joan Westenberg suggests: "Think about it this way: if someone broke into your house & started smashing your belongings, you wouldn't describe them as an "interior design critic." You'd call them what they are: a criminal. So why the fuck are we bending over backwards to find polite terms for people who are, quite literally, advocating for the destruction of entire communities?
When we use euphemisms like "protestor" to describe rioting, rabid, dogshit neo-Nazis, we're not just being inaccurate – we're actively contributing to the normalization of their ideology.
This tendency to soften our language when it comes to extremist ideologies isn't evenly applied. We don't hesitate to use harsh, condemnatory language when talking about other forms of violent extremism. We don't call ISIS members "religious freedom activists" or refer to cartel enforcers as "pharmaceutical distribution protestors." So why the kid gloves when it comes to neo-Nazis?"

Nazis Aren’t Protestors. They’re Wankers.

There's a dangerous game of verbal gymnastics being played out in the public sphere, and it's high time we called it what it is: a steaming pile of i...

> With Gitpod people from all over the world can contribute from any device without the typical $3,000 Macbook Pro barrier to entry.

which parallel universe is this from? my first personal development machine was a netbook with a 1024x600 screen and Linux graphics drivers without 3D. it's less fine now but you still don't need to drop 3k on a macbook ffs

Just had an experience where @zandra stopped what she was doing and said "Dishwasher is totally a computer situation" and I was like "What?" and then— I'm still really impressed with this— she was actually able to come up with an explanation where this sentence not only makes sense, but is accurate and insightful
