the metaverse shit was super funny considering that vrchat is literally that, including the portable code between different worlds.

at the time of the metaverse hype cycle:

  • you could literally script your avatar to do all sorts of state machine stuff when you press a button in a menu
  • your avatar can have shaders and textures on it that react to sounds
  • some avatars were also able to do some really wacky hacks to spawn interactive objects
  • world creators l were able to design (and share) interactive assets with complex behaviors (including a completely vrchat-native beat saber implementation)

second life also did similar stuff it just didn’t use head mounted displays.

unfortunately for the moneybags trying to capitalize on the metaverse, vrchat was (and still is) full of furries having vr sex, so
