I'm here because I believe in software as a force for good in a not-so-good world.

Most toots in English, with occasional gobs of German.

❓Have you noticed that digital products and services are getting worse? So have we!

➡️We have published a report about enshittification, on how and why digital products and services keep getting worse - and how we can turn the trend (hint: open tech, enforcement, public policy++)

Obviously @pluralistic is a big inspiration and help in this work.

More than 80 groups in Europe and the US has joined in a call to action.

I'm sure I am forgetting some blossom or other, so if you can think of any more seen in Japan around springtime then let me know!

And remember, not all blossoms are pink or white...💛💚🥹

Actions speak louder than words.

I am unable to install EU Login app in my phone because I use LineageOS and not the Google Spy Android.

Thus, I cannot use the double factor authentication, mandatory from the 25-02-2026 on unless I tell Google.

A frontal attack to our #privacy.

Stupid, no?

@EUCommission

This may shock some folks, but it is OK to simultaneously say that Khomeini had it coming and is a piece of shit who deserved what he got, and to say that a US president shouldn’t be assassinating foreign leaders without authorization from Congress. We can do that. We can have complex discussions. It is possible.

Edit ** as many have pointed out, the guy I was posting about here is Khameini (perils of late night posting). Khomeini died of cardiovascular disease in 1989.

Following a decision by the Codeberg e. V.'s Presidium, Codeberg e. V. has joined the ranks of many organizations as a co-signatory of the draft letter of the "Keep Android Open" initiative: https://keepandroidopen.org/draft-letter/

Apart from the impact on the many independent developers hosting their source code on https://codeberg.org, we are concerned by the greater societal implications the Android ecosystem's current trajectory will cause. For more information, see: https://keepandroidopen.org

Open Letter to Google Regarding Mandatory Developer Registration for Third-Party App Distribution

@whitequark Me, introducing some elderly person to #Linux because all they do is email and facebook and Windows wants them to buy a new computer:

People should be able to write software for Android, and distribute it outside Google's Play store, without having to:

* pay Google
* give government ID to Google
* agree to Google terms and conditions

People should be able to install the software they want on their phone, from sources other than Google's Play store, without having to jump through Google-imposed hoops.

e.g. via F-Droid.

We've got until September this year to stop Google squeezing the open Android ecosystem.
