You may need to remove and add the link to GitHub. It seems mastodon verifies link only once
For verifying a GitHub profile link, you just need to set a link to Mastodon in your GitHub profile page. It was easy enough
I couldn't figure out how to customize the original Mastodon UI, so I'm now trying Elk https://elk.zone/home
