I've added publications for VIS 2024 to VisPubs.com! (just in time for VIS)
The papers include links to preprints, supplemental material, preregistration, and the conference website link.
People always talk about how it’s hard to make virtual conferences feel different than everyday life. One way to combat this is to make your space different.
Something i did for the remote VISs and CHIs was rearrange my office really dramatically for the proceedings (and then switch it back right afterwards). This made it feel like i was in an actually different place and made the whole thing feel more memorable
Based on new data, I've changed my mind about the belief that "People don't change their minds based on new data."🙂🙃
My previous belief was based on the great research on the "backfire effect," done by Brendan Nyhan in 2010. But in 2020, Brendan did new research, showing that he was wrong about people not changing their minds.🙃🙂

He showed that presenting the right data the right way, does cause people to change their minds. This was the right data and way for me.

When Darius and I wrapped up our fedi governance research earlier this fall, I knew that one of the next steps I most wanted to work on was a set of ways to make it much easier for potential fediverse members to find genuinely good homes here.
And by good homes, I mean servers/instances that are as safe and well protected and optimally connected aand moderated—*for a given membership*—as possible.
But took me six tries to write this intro post about it:
