This coupled with the subversion of the fifth estate, placating to white supremacists, isolationists and traditionalists, forms a power coalition of the stupid, angry and disheveled that helps to facilitate this circus. Welcome to the “tea-party”/“alt-right” movement. It’s not about owning the libs, but destroying democracy.

But yes, despite what the government may have said, there was really no plan to leave or even ignore NATO, because a shit ton of the US’s soft power comes from it, and the US government has probably behind the scenes assured various bit players within the government that they wouldn’t ever leave NATO, as most likely that would trigger a top secret CIA clause whereby both Trump and Vance would fall out of a window, only to tumble down jagged flights of stairs into a container filled with broken glass.
