Lähiaikoina monet (erityisesti #twitter​issä) ovat ihmetelleet, mikä #mastodon on. Erilaisia ohjeita on paljon, mutta monet niistä saavat homman kuulostamaan monimutkaisemmalta kuin se onkaan, joten yritin selittää mahdollisimman pelkistetyt perusteet yksinkertaisesti ja epäteknisesti. Toivottavasti tästä on apua jollekin!

Probably not a lot of people know this now, but Mastodon's web app started out with "Publish". In 2016 a famous YouTuber jokingly offered to support Mastodon's Patreon forever if I changed the button to say "Toot" instead. Needless to say, this was a really early, and not very informed decision. The first glimpse of attention and financial support. As a non-native speaker I had no idea there was another meaning.

Sellainen tipsi kaikille Twitteristä tulleille, että täällä on helpointa kirjoittaa tootteihin hymiöt/emotet kirjoittamalla "kaksoispiste hymiö", joka avaa kätevän pikavalinnan kursorin kohdalle.

Eli siis esim ":smile:" antaa hymiön 😄

Toivottavasti on hyötyä niille jotka eivät hoksanneet 😃 . Boostatkaa toki.

If I were a Finnish IT consultancy I would be lobbying the government *so hard* right now for them to let me set up and administer (& do PR for) an “official” citizen forum (and another one for verified politicians, government instances & officials etc.) on Mastodon

I’m actually a tiny bit hopeful that Musk might succeed where Zuck has failed: to get people to choose social media not owned by a billionaire.
