The Banksy identity is such a journalist convention thing like Chatham House rules.

The only way to get basically journalists to go along with something is to create some convention around it without some external pressure.

It could have easily went in the other direction with Banksy a few decades ago, if some tabloid would have just dropped “Banksy (real name Liam Codger)” in an article
